JANIE BARRETT

Janie Barrett has been a staff photographer at the Sydney Morning Herald since 2005. She has twice been a winner of a Kennedy award for outstanding photo essay, once for a series documenting Alzheimer's Disease in Western Sydney migrant communities, and secondly for a photo essay that covered a teenager's 2 year wait for a heart-lung transplant, including the operation. In 2021 she won the documentary category of the Australian Photographic Awards, and previously she has won a Panpa. She has been a finalist in numerous competitions, including the National Portrait Prize, Sydney Life, Olive Cotton Award, and the Head On Portrait Prize.
